The short version

The app is built to keep what you write on this device.
It does not send what you write to anyone else (speaking instead of typing is the one exception, and only if you choose it: see below), and the app's owner cannot see it.
The app does not monitor you.
Because there is no password, anyone who picks up your device could open what you have saved.

What the app keeps

Your pepeha, strengths, values, check-in, goals and goal steps, your support crew (the names and phone numbers you add), budget, your age group (13 to 17 or 18 to 24), and that you agreed to the terms. Ask Kete Rangatahi and the feelings tool keep what you type on the screen only. It is gone when you leave.

Where it is kept

In your browser's storage on this device. It can be lost if you clear your browser data, or if your browser clears it for you. Safari can do this after about 7 days without a visit. Your device or browser may also back up its data, for example to a cloud account, and that is outside this app's control. There is no backup from the app, so keep a copy of anything important somewhere else too.

Signing in

This app has no account. It does not ask for your name, email or location.

What leaves your device

Fonts. The app's fonts are built in, so opening it does not contact Google or any other font service.
The website host. Like any website, the host can see basic visit details such as your internet address.
Speaking instead of typing. If you turn this on and tap a microphone button, your browser or phone sends your voice to its own speech service (for example Apple or Google) to turn it into text. This app does not receive or keep the audio. That service's privacy policy applies. If you never use the microphone buttons, no audio is recorded.
Reading out loud. The listen tools and the Read this to me button use your phone or browser's own voice. Some browsers use an online voice service to do this. Only the app's own words are read out, never what you type.
Links and phone numbers. The songs, videos, websites and helplines the app links to are run by other people. Their privacy policies apply once you open one or contact them.

Apart from these, the app does not send what you write anywhere.

Your part

Please do not enter other people's personal information, such as full names, addresses or things they have told you in confidence. My support crew is the one exception: you can save a name or nickname and a phone number for people you trust, so they are one tap away. Please ask them first. You are responsible for what you choose to write and for keeping your device secure.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to see and correct personal information an agency holds about you. This app keeps your information on your own device, so you already have it. To delete it, go to About, then Clear saved items, or clear your browser data. If you have a concern, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

If this changes

If accounts or servers are ever added, this page will be updated before they go live.

Not for emergencies

This app does not monitor what you write and cannot send help. If you are in danger, call 111. For free support any time, call or text 1737.
