By locking in and using Kete Pūtea, you agree to these terms. Please read them.

1. What the app is

Kete Pūtea is a kete of money tools and guidance. It shares general information and simple calculators. It is not financial advice and does not consider your full situation. Talk to a licensed financial adviser before making big decisions about investing, insurance, KiwiSaver or retirement.

2. Not an emergency service

The app is not monitored and cannot send help. If you are in danger, call 111. For free support any time, call or text 1737.

3. It does not replace other support

The app does not replace professional help or any support, care or obligations you have. Do not stop or change any treatment or support because of something in the app. The app does not report your use to anyone and is not an official record.

4. Using the app

• It is for your own personal use.
• Keep your device secure and log out when someone else might use it.
• Your entries are private to your device, but anyone with your device could read them. Avoid writing anything you would not want them to see.
• Do not enter other people's personal information.
• Do not try to break, copy or misuse the app, or use it to harass anyone or plan harm.

5. What you write

What you write is yours. Kete Pūtea and the app's owner do not use it or see it. You are responsible for what you choose to write and for keeping it safe.

6. Our content

Except for third-party material credited on the Credits page, the design, code and wording of this app belong to the app's owner. The owners of the credited material keep their rights. You may use the app for yourself. You may not copy, sell or share it without written permission.

7. Te reo Māori and tikanga

We have tried to use Te reo Māori and kete with respect. If something is wrong, please tell us so we can fix it.

8. Accuracy and availability

The app is provided as it is. The information is general and may contain mistakes. The app may change, stop working or be removed at any time without notice. We cannot promise your saved information will be kept, so keep a copy of anything important.

9. No responsibility for harm

Kete Pūtea, the app's owner and anyone who helped make the app take no responsibility for any harm, loss or injury, whether physical, emotional, psychological or spiritual, that you experience or cause, directly or indirectly, from using the app or acting on what it says. You use the app at your own risk and you are responsible for your own choices. If something in the app upsets you, stop, and reach out to someone you trust or a support service.

This applies to the extent the law allows. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under New Zealand law, including the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 where it applies.

10. Paid plans

• Every new subscription starts with a 7-day free trial. If you cancel during the free trial you will not be charged.
• When the trial ends, your chosen plan starts and you are charged the plan price. Prices are shown in New Zealand dollars.
• The 12 week, 6 month and 12 month plans are one payment and do not renew. The monthly plan renews every month until you cancel. You can cancel any time, and you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
• Payments are taken by our payment provider on its own secure page. We do not see or store your card details.
• Please do not share your access with others.
• Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986.

11. Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. If you keep using the app after a change, you accept the new terms.

12. Law

These terms are governed by New Zealand law.

The short version

• The app is built to keep what you write on this device.
• It does not send what you write to anyone else (speaking instead of typing is the one exception, and only if you choose it: see below), and the app's owner cannot see it.
• The app does not monitor you.
• Because there is no password, anyone who picks up your device could open your progress. Log out when someone else might use it.

What the app keeps

Your name and email, and your financial wellbeing check-ins. The amounts you type into the calculators and planners are not saved. The app does not ask for your bank logins, account numbers or IRD number.

Where it is kept

In your browser's storage on this device. It can be lost if you clear your browser data, or if your browser clears it for you. Safari can do this after about 7 days without a visit. Your device or browser may also back up its data, for example to a cloud account, and that is outside this app's control. There is no backup from the app, so keep a copy of anything important somewhere else too.

Signing in

Your name and email keep your progress separate from anyone else who uses this device. We do not check that the email is yours, and there is no password. Someone who knows the email you used, and has your device, could open your progress.

What leaves your device

• Fonts. The app's fonts are built in, so opening it does not contact Google or any other font service.
• The website host. Like any website, the host can see basic visit details such as your internet address.
• Speaking instead of typing. If you turn this on and tap a microphone button, your browser or phone sends your voice to its own speech service (for example Apple or Google) to turn it into text. This app does not receive or keep the audio. That service's privacy policy applies. If you never use the microphone buttons, no audio is recorded.
• Buying a plan. If you choose to buy, your name, email and payment details are handled by our payment provider on its own checkout page, and its privacy policy applies. This app does not see your card details. We may use your email to send your receipt and access code.
• Links. The websites the app links to are run by other people. Their privacy policies apply once you open one.

Apart from these, the app does not send what you write anywhere.

Your part

Please do not enter other people's personal information, such as full names, addresses or things they have told you in confidence. You are responsible for what you choose to write and for keeping your device secure.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to see and correct personal information an agency holds about you. This app keeps your information on your own device, so you already have it. To delete it, clear your browser data. Not you? Log out on the welcome screen removes your name and email. If you have a concern, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

If this changes

If accounts or servers are ever added, this page will be updated before they go live.

Kete Pūtea points to New Zealand sources for current rates and rules, including Sorted (sorted.org.nz), Inland Revenue (ird.govt.nz), Work and Income (workandincome.govt.nz) and MoneyTalks (moneytalks.co.nz). They keep their own rights and are not run by Mahutonga Media.
